Sunrise Agate, Jasper & Sterling Silver Cuff by Salma Vir
This stunning wrist cuff made by Taos-based artist Salma Vir is truly one-of-a-kind. The piece is composed of twenty gauge sterling silver plate, three gauge sterling silver triangle wire, agate and jasper stones.
This bracelet has a 1 1/4" opening, 3/4" in height, and an agate fan height of 1/2."
Salma Vir was raised in both New York City and Los Angeles, today she works primarily as a jewelry designer and silversmith, lapidary artist, and dancer in the mountains of Northern New Mexico. Early on, Salma realized her natural affinity and talent for dance. Salma continues to utilize dance to channel the intensity of her emotional life. Expanding beyond dance, Salma eventually discovered a knack for visual 2D arts. Her upbringing in a mixed-race home—Black and South Asian—informs her work today as a jeweler, painter, dancer, and designer. She explores the messiness and pains of intersectionality—as experienced by mixed-race peoples and families.
Jewelry design has become the crux of Salma’s creative focus. Her pieces are inspired by the jewelry aesthetics and styles she grew up around - big, colorful, grandiose, and confident. Her jewelry is riddled with reference to South Asian motifs and Black American stylization, all accompanied by southwestern influence.
