Nuestra Senora de Guadalupe 'Retablo' by Carlos Rael
This precious image of Nuestra Senora de Guadalupe (Our Lady of Guadalupe) measures 5"high by 2 1/4" wide and features a double rosette carving. Signed and dated on the backside and is ready to hang.
Rael gathers and processes natural pigments from the earth using minerals, plants and the Cochineal insect. He makes his varnish from the sap of Pinon trees, as was done in Colonial Northern New Mexico.
Rael was born in Santa Fe and is a descendant of Alonso Rael de Aguilar, a member of the De Vargas Force in the re-conquest of Nuevo Mexico in 1692.
