La Sagrada Corazon Retablo by Carlos A. Rael
This traditional, hand-painted Retablo by Santero artist Carlos A. Rael is 3 3/4" long by 2 1/4" wide and is intended for wall-hanging. Rael gathers and processes natural pigments from the earth using minerals, plants and the Cochineal insect. He makes his varnish from the sap of Pinon trees, as was done in Colonial Northern New Mexico.
Rael was born in Santa Fe and is a descendant of Alonso Rael de Aguilar, a member of the De Vargas Force in the re-conquest of Nuevo Mexico in 1692.
