PAST EXHIBITIONS

"Bruce Williams: 25 Years of Taos Furniture Design"

September 4 - November 4, 2018

Bruce William's exhibition will feature 25 pieces from his 25 years of making Northern New Mexico Style furniture.  On the walls of the Fechin Studio, will be his detailed scale drawings in his handmade frames alongside some of his and Fechin's furniture!

Bruce Williams was born in San Antonio well over three quarters of a century ago. After receiving his MFA from Sophie Newcomb Art School (Tulane U.), he taught fine art at the college level. His career as a teacher brought him to Southern California where he fell in with the movie makers. It wasn't long before a summer job as a scenic carpenter led to a new calling as an "art dog". He "retired" to Taos after a long career in the scenery and prop making side of show biz. Since that time, he has directed his efforts to the design and craft of furniture....

An Exhibit of Paintings and Monotypes

by Suzanne Wiggin

Suzanne Wiggin moved to Taos in 1976 as a teenager. Her artistic vision has been formed by the years of living in the Taos Valley.  Her focus has been the weather and its relationship with the land.  This exhibit includes both oil paintings and monotypes which she has created in her studio in Arroyo Seco, NM,
over the past 30 years of making.

"Connective Threads" from Weaving Southwest

An Exhibition of Weavings curated by Teresa Loveless.

May 1 - July 1, 2018

"For some of us it’s the sheep; for some it’s the history, the culture, the techniques; for some it’s the ranchers, the lifestyle. Whatever our inspiration, we all choose to weave The Southwestern Way, incorporating techniques and fibers that have existed in this region long before us. Over our lifetimes, we have created stories and made connections that all tie back to this style of weaving. This show, Connected Threads, intends to illustrate the importance of the preservation and education of this style of weaving, by exhibiting works of artists near and far, along with bits of their stories. With pieces woven by beginning weavers, experienced tapestry artists, students, teachers, ranchers, spinners, craftsman, and the list goes on, we begin to see how the threads of this story are interwoven over generations, hopefully leaving the viewer inspired and curious about this truly important art form. “The banquet is spread constantly, with no thought of whether anyone will attend. If I were receptive enough, perhaps I would see it in everything. But I’m not, so photography is one of the tools I use to help me concentrate, to help me see deeply, to block out all that is extraneous and see that which is essential.”

Words close to my heart from photographer Dewitt Jones.
